Parish
Nursing is an opportunity to share and promote the responsibility
of each person to be a "Good Steward of God's Creation" and
to be "His Brother's Keeper".

We
have active Parish Nurses at American Lutheran.
We are available:
1. Saturday evening and Sunday mornings for glucose and blood pressure checks,
2.
We continue to respond to questions-we have a unique group in that
we cover various areas. So if one doesn't know the answer and will
refer to another,
3.
We have had several educational seminars:
- 3-week
series on "Weight Loss"
- 2-hour
meeting on "Medical Power of Attorney"
- 3-week
series on "Stress, Anxiety and Depression"
- 2-hour
meeting on "Medicare, Managed Care and other Insurances"
- 3-hour
series on "Humor, Prayer and Music Therapy" ending with
sing along and light lunch
- 3-hour
session titled "From Here to Eternity" having various
speakers from Home Care, Hospice, Nursing Home, Extended Living
Facility and ended with speaker from Funeral Home
- 3-hours
of "Give your Children and Family a Gift" Putting your critical
papers in order, along with A Special Memory Book to give to your
Family. This includes a speaker on making your funeral plan
- 5-hours
of "Your Money and Your Life" Topics of budgeting, money managment,
debt management and credit
- 9-sessions
of "Bringing Up Boys" by James Dobson
- 8-sessions
of "Homes of Honor, Parenting" by Gary Smalley,

We have assisted parishioners in writing letters of concern to health
care facilities,

Provided educational materials concerning specific health conditions-we
have developed quite a library of educational materials,

We participate in health Fairs at other churches,
The
Parish Nurses meet with a Pastor on a monthly basis. We review new
programs and discuss general issues raised by the Pastors where they
want us to intervene to help them.
